Summer Samadhi Sound Bath & Restorative Yin Yoga will take you on an internal exploration of gentle ease.
sa·ma·dhi [səˈmädē] NOUN
- a state of intense concentration achieved through meditation. In the 8 limbs of yoga this is regarded as the final stage, at which union with the divine is reached.
Brianna Williams, RN, 200RYT and Dr. Kristen Acesta, ND, 500RYT lead one to find restful peace in the resolve of koshic layers into their blissful states. Breathe deep with restorative postures returning to balance, and let the vibratory sound of crystal quartz singing bowls take you to the best places of yourself.
The restorative shapes in this workshop will provide gentle stimulation to the 4 primary meridians associated with 5 element theory's “2 summers”, opening and balancing the energetic channels for heart and stomach/spleen, increasing opportunity for one to bask in the experience of abundance and joy. Welcome resolve, as the summer energy is at its highest. Release, restore, and renew.
Summer Samadhi restorative and yin yoga leads us on a path of pause, moving away from fight or flight/sympathetic nervous system response, toward a restful state where our parasympathetic nervous system can take the wheel and guide us toward deep rest and recovery. Todays lifestyles are filled with fast-paced, hectic, hurried schedules and while that is sometimes necessary or even enjoyable, it is not sustainable without proper rest. Being tired, depleted and stressed out narrows our perspective and disconnects us from our purpose.
The intention for summer samadhi restorative and yin yoga is to slow down and go within, assess the potential imbalance of qi (energy) flow, breathe deep with restorative postures, and letting the vibratory sound of crystal quartz singing bowls take you to the best places of yourself.
To help us achieve this we will use techniques of Traditional Chinese Medicine culture’s 5 element theory. The goal of this theory is to bring the body, mind and spirit into balance. The five elements are: Water, Wood, Fire, Earth and Metal. Each element corresponds with different seasons, emotions, biological functions, organs, directions of energy (qi) and meridians (energetic channels where qi flows). When our energy is flowing freely the 5 elements are said to be in balance. But when out of balance (excess, deficient or blocked), physical and emotional symptoms can be manifested.
Summer Samadhi specifically focuses on the element of fire which corresponds with the season Summer, and the following organs with their associated meridians: heart, pericardium, small intestine, triple heater. The fire energy encompasses acts of sharing, communicating, creativity, being inspired, joy, and connection to self. The heart is said to be the emperor of the internal organs, overseeing the inner workings of our whole body-mind. It is also the residence of spirit (consciousness, memory, cognition, insight, emotions). Poor heart qi can manifest as extreme emotion, which suppresses the immune system and hinders communication. Poor qi in the small intestine can manifest as sluggish or excessive metabolism, dysregulated sexuality/pleasure, and imbalance of the endocrine system. Yin yoga postures that tug on the connective tissues and facia of these meridians will free up qi flow to nourish the heart and small intestines. Restorative yoga shapes will provide an invitation into present awareness to encourage a passive release of mind and body tension.
When we shift, the world shifts. When we are present with ourselves and we regard ourselves with tenderness, there is a space that opens in us, where compassion flourishes.
Join us for a 2 hour workshop. Welcome resolve, as the summer energy is at its highest. Release, restore, and renew.
